World of warcraft books chronological order
Updated Chronological Order of WoW Novels 10/7/19
(Updated on 8/9/20)
Alright after several hours of scouring the web I have tracked down what I am extremely confident is the full chronological order of the WoW Novels for anyone who may wish to catch up on their lore.
I must emphasize this list is NOVELS ONLY - there are numerous additional secondary lore media you can find such as videos and comics, but I won’t be adding those sources.
If someone wants to add a list of the short stories/ comics in the comments I will edit that list into the post otherwise I will not be adding the comics, mangas, short stories, media, etc. Only published novels with the exception of the Traveler novel because it doesn’t add any real lore developments.
Most people including myself recommend reading them in this order, start at #1 and enjoy!
Rise of the Horde
by Christie Golden
The Last Guardian
by Jeff Grubb
Tides of Darkness
by Aaron Rosenburg
Beyond the Dark Portal
by Christie Golden & Aaron Rosenburg
Day of the Dragon
by Richard A. Knaak
!!! The War of the Ancients Trilogy takes place before Rise of the Horde but it is highly recommended that you read
Seeking Clarification on the Chronological Order of Warcraft Books and Novels
Hello Everyone,
I’m reaching out to this knowledgeable community with a query that has been on my mind for some time. Like many of you, I’m deeply enamored with the vast and intricate lore of the Warcraft universe. This fascination extends beyond the games, as I find myself drawn to the rich narratives found in the books and novels that accompany this world.
My issue, however, lies in determining the chronological order of these literary works. I’m interested in both the order of their publication and the timeline of events within the Warcraft universe. Despite extensive searches (for over a year) through various third-party sites and forum discussions, I’ve yet to find a clear and comprehensive guide. Often, the information I come across is either conflicting or incomplete.
Has anyone else faced this challenge?
Does a comprehensive list exist that I might have overlooked? Any guidance, information, or resources you could share would be greatly appreciated.
Your insights are invaluable to fans like myself who wish to delve deeper into the Warcraft universe!

With so many books out, those of us curious about the lore are finding it tough to know where to start. If you're curious about the books, we're here to offer a bit of guidance. Here's the complete guide on how to read the books in chronological order.
We'll do our best to avoid spoilers in our mentions here. But some books, just the setup can spoil previous books and in-game storylines. Be careful if you're sensitive to spoilers!
