Ffxiv how to message someone from another world
Played every other MMO on the planet and veered away from this one because I wasn't a fan of 'cat girls'. Anyways, found the game on sale and went ahead and bought it. I was surprised to find that the stereotypical anime tropes aren't so pronounced in this game which is great. Started playing yesterday. I honestly love this MMO and wish I started sooner.
Fast forward to today (played the game non-stop); I'm level 34 and I haven't seen a single person speak in General chat.
Is there a general chat? Why is everyone so silent? I've visited every crowded town in the game and couldn't find a single person speaking in chat. Tried talking in chat myself and couldn't foster a reply.

Final Fantasy XIV Guide
The basics of how to interact with other players of Final Fantasy XIV, including chat window commands and more.
Introduction
This page gives a basic overview of ways to interact with other players in Final Fantasy XIV. You might also want to read the official Communication Guide on The Lodestone.
The Chat Log Window
The chat log window for Final Fantasy XIV is in the bottom-left corner by default. (If the chat window is not there, you can press Enter on keyboard, or the Back button on gamepad, to make it reappear.) You can switch to different chat channels by clicking the speech bubble and selecting the desired channel. You can also use different chat channels without needing to manually switch to them by starting your message with a slash command, such as /say . See the Chat Commands table at the bottom of the page for more information.
Emotes
Emotes provide another way to interact with players. Emotes include facial expressions, gestures, dances, etc. More emotes can be unlocked with certain quests, and some can be purchased from the FFXIV Online Store. For a full list of the emotes that are currently available to you in

ALIASES:
/tell, /t
USAGE:
/tell [PC name]@[World name] [message]
→Sends a message to a specific PC on a specified World. When specifying a World other than your own, the message can only be sent to PCs that are on your friend list or recruiting party members via the Party Finder. This message cannot be seen by other PCs, and will not be displayed if [Tell] is deselected in the chat filter. Typing /tell or /t [PC name]@[World name] without a message switches the default chat mode to [Tell].
>>Example:
/tell [PC name]@Bahamut Hello
(Sends the message "Hello" to
[PC name] on the World
Bahamut.)
