Old World Cafe

Old World Cafe (1 W. Market St, Corning, NY) is my staple lunch spot in Corning. Located smack-dab in the middle of Market St (in Centerway Square), you really can’t miss it.  On a weekday lunch hour, it is swarming with locals looking to grab a homemade sandwich and cup of soup.

The Food here is top notch. They are probably best known for their daily homemade soups. Almost always on the menu is their Stracciatella. Even though they usually have other great sounding daily soups, the Stracciatella is almost always what I end up getting.  It’s an Italian egg drop soup with thin noodles, a chicken broth base, and a pile of parmesan cheese. Perfect for the winter.  And a cup goes great with a sandwich.  Let them know ahead of time if you’d like it to come with your sandwich. I prefer it this way because I’m a dunker. Otherwise it will probably come out beforehand.

The portions are pretty big. A bowl of soup may be enough for lunch. I usually end up getting a cup of soup and splitting a sandwich (or vise versa).  They do have a soup and sandwich combo, but the sandwiches that come with it are half-sized and quite basic. Which is fine. I go th

Old World Cafe & Ice Cream

I had the Mediterranean sandwich and it was so good and so filling I brought it home and stretched it out for 2 days, it was soooo good I didn't want it to be gone!! Can't wait to go back but you're over 2 hrs away!😢 the atmosphere was like an old fashioned ice cream parlor. Loved everything about it!!

Love this place! The aesthetic of the place, the menu, the music, the candies for sale, it all feels right out of the past. There are two counters: you can order ice cream from the first counter near the main entrance, and sandwiches and salads and baked goods from the cafe counter in the back. The ice cream is mostly Hershey's but they currently have one housemade gelato and one sorbetto that rotates. The ice cream counter also has novelty candy and ice cream for sale, but if you go in back to the cafe counter, they have higher quality locally produced and imported candies along with other pantry stuff like jam and tea. I've stopped here a few times. The sandwiches have been fantastic (globe sandwich and Moroccan wrap). The carrot cake was just okay, a little dry if I remember correctly, but the coconut custard pie I t
