Horrific photos show thinnest dog ever seen by RSPCA found on country lane
Shocking photos show Peanut, a lurcher that was found alone down a country lane in Bedfordshire on New Year's Day, in such a bad way that every bone on her body is visible
The RSPCA is caring for the thinnest dog one of its officers has ever seen as it deals with a record number of abandoned animals.
Shocking photos show Peanut, a lurcher, in such a bad way that every bone on her body is visible. The three-year-old pooch was found alone down a country lane in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, on January 1.
She was taken to an emergency vet by concerned members of the public before RSPCA in Cambridgeshire took over her care. The RSPCA are now making investigations as the charity reveals there were more abandoned incidents this festive season than any year since 2018.

Peanut had multiple pressure sores on her legs - a sign that she laid on hard surfaces for long periods of time.
She remains extremely poorly and had been almost lifeless when she first arrived.
However she is showing small signs of improvement and has started to stand up by herself and even 'tentatively' ran to get breakfast.

An abandoned lurcher, described by an RSPCA rescuer as a 'walking skeleton' and the skinniest dog he'd ever seen, has made a dramatic recovery and is loving life at a new home.
Luca was barely alive when he was found by veteran inspector Ben Cottle-Shaw in Barnsley in April 2023.
But now the pooch is enjoying a comfortable existence with new owners David Hagan, 67, and wife Gillian.
When South Yorkshire police officers discovered the shockingly thin dog, it had lost 98% of its fur and its tail was rotting off due to a nasty infection.
Luca, who had been left tied to a lamppost, was terrified, starving and so weak that he could barely move.

The “skinniest dog” has made a miraculous recovery after being taken away from his uncaring owner
A public wave of sympathy for the "skin and bones" lurcher called Spot has not only seen him pile on the pounds but find a happy forever home.
These before and after photographs show how Spot's life has been transformed since he was taken on by the RSPCA.
Earlier this year, the white lurcher with Dalmatian-type markings made a pitiful sight when the animal welfare charity launched an investigation after he was found in a "shocking state" on an industrial estate in Cleator Moor, Cumbria.

‘Ned’ is now part of a family with three dogs who he gets on really well with
Pictures published by Express.co.uk showing Spot with his ribs poking through his fur helped spark a wave of sympathy for him, with members of the public sending in food and jumpers to keep him warm while he put on weight.
RSPCA inspector Martyn Fletcher said at the time: "He is the skinniest dog I think I've ever seen alive, literally skin and bones."
