DC vs. Vampires: World War V #4

DC vs. Vampires: World War V #4 begins to answer many questions that have arisen in this latest installment of the story that follows the ongoing struggle between the remaing remnants of humanity and the superhero/supervillain’s turn bloodsucker.

The issue answers the question of who the new person running around in the Bat Suit, a revelation that leads to a confrontation with the new weilder of the Green Lantern ring. This revelation moves Damian’s role in the larger story along and leads to a cliffhanger that doesn’t bode well for him.

Scott Free and his attempts to keep his daughter safe also plays a major part in this issue as he is hunted and eventually found by the vampiric heroes and villains looking to deliver him and his daughter to Granny Goodness.

The issue also reveals that Barbara, the vampire Queen is not yet dead, though close, and the internal power struggle amongst the Vampires continues. Also finally appearing are Supergirl, Steel, and Lobo, whose arrival has yet to explain where they have been since the previous installment of the larger story. Jayna also shows up looking like she is dressed as a nun.

‘DC vs. Vampires: World War V’ #4 spins its wheels to set things up

DC vs. Vampires: World War V
continues to be one of the best ensemble epic miniseries going in comics. Writer Matthew Rosenberg is great at juggling multiple plots with characters dying off, pulling twists, and generally not sucking (see what I did there?). Now, with
DC vs. Vampires: World War V
#4 out this week, the story has new reveals, and the bad guys may have an edge!

DC vs. Vampires: World War V
#4 is one of those issues that gets a few more plates spinning, but not a lot actually happens. There’s melodrama between characters, though, and that’s why a lot of us are reading this alternate reality in DC Comics.

This miniseries has brought in a lot more gods and spirits, as is seen with Mister Miracle and a few surprises. The cover clearly shows Spectre, too, and John Constantine is involved as well. If you like that corner of the universe, you’ll find a few reveals here.

One of the more compelling aspects you may not have seen coming is Damian’s father figures popping up. Alfred is now a Green Lantern, and a figure w

We’re at the 1/3rd point of this story, and it already feels like vampire Elongated Man from the 1st issue of this series…bloated beyond comprehension. Let’s try to summarize what the plot is actually about and whether or not the pages dedicated to it are worth it.

Hey, Am I in Arkham Cause This Cell is Padded

For a series meant to last 12 issues, it makes sense to have multiple subplots, and
DC vs. Vampires: World War V
has several of them. The problem starts with the fact that not only are all these subplots constantly bleeding into each other (swear to God, that wasn’t a vampire pun), but I’m not even sure there’s a main plot at this point. Is it about finding Damian? Is it about the Miracle baby? Is it about Constantine’s memories? Is it about the truce between the humans and the vampires?

This isn’t helped by the fact that the plot feels like it’s on blood thinners (ok, that one was intentional), as we reveal that vampire queen Barbara Gordon isn’t dead and someone who isn’t a vampire is making a deal with her. I have my suspicions as to who this is between the Mister Miracle subplot and the appearance of Metron, but for now, I’ll keep it to myself.
