Is final fantasy 7 remake open world
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Open World Has So Much More Life Than 16
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s promise of an open world has worried me since it was revealed. In Remake we saw a 40-hour adventure confined to Midgar, with Square Enix expanding what was a small part of the original game into a much grander adventure with bigger locations, new characters, and a subversive reinvention of the narrative its sequel is bound to build on.
There was a fear that recreating the world we all know and love at an appropriate scale with modern production values and mechanics would prove impossible, or at least risk diluting so much of it with needless grinding and superfluous side activities. The last thing I want to see Cloud doing is collecting 500 chocobo feathers in exchange for a weapon he’ll never use. It seems my fears are unfounded though, since even after spending 30 minutes darting about the dilapidated plains of Junon I’m left with a surprising amount of optimism. This world feels alive and ripe with purpose, refusing to lose any of its character or depth in pursuit of scope.

FF7 Remake was better... and bigger
I think the main reason for this in my opinion is the city of MIdgar. Seeing the city's vastness rebuilt for the current gen was awe inspiring, and being able to explore the different sectors was so awesome.
Rebirth goes back to the classic trope of RPG cities that are actually the size of tiny villages, which is such a disappointment after coming from the previous game. Nothing you come across in this game gives you the sense of wonder as seeing the backdrop of the vast Midgar skyline from the high offices of Shinra.
Pacing issues aside, I still am having fun with Rebirth in the 26 hours I have played so far, but it is definitely missing the magic that Remake had.

I Wish Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Was Actually An Open-World Game
Like Red XIII, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a bit of a strange beast. In the run up to its release, a lot of the buzz around the game centered around its open world. After the linearity of Remake, the sequel would be using modern, open-world design to recreate the feeling of exploring the world map of the original PS1 game. It was an exciting prospect in some ways, and dread-inducing in others. Final Fantasy 7 Remake was great, but would the things that made it sing translate to a wide open sandbox? Or would it end up getting bogged down by the checklist that plagues many games in the genre?
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Is "Wide Linear"
Turns out, we didn’t need to worry. After 25 hours and eight chapters, I’ve come to the conclusion that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth isn’t an open-world game, at all — at least not anymore than "wide linear" games like The Last of Us Part 2 or Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Though there are open sections, by and large, Rebirth is just as linear as Remake.
Open-world games exist on a spectrum. To paraphrase George Orwell, all of them are open, but some are more open than others. On th
