Dirt world bike skills park

Nesbitt Park Skills Park

In the evolving landscape of South Lismore, the Lismore City Council set a transformation in motion with a vision to rejuvenate a space once filled with forgotten dirt jumps. World Trail breathed life into this vision, laying the groundwork for Australia’s pioneering integrated Mountain Bike Skills Park and Pump Track facility. This project was about revitalisation and reimagining urban trail possibilities, marking the inception of the “Mountain Bike Playground” concept.

Spanning a generous 2750 m2, the site was meticulously designed to accommodate a Skills Park stretching over 300 m, adorned with 26 bespoke features, each meticulously crafted from custom galvanised steel to foster rider development. This wasn’t just construction; it was the creation of a landscape that blended the thrill of mountain biking with the beauty of nature, offering a lush, inviting backdrop to the adrenaline-fueled challenges within. The Asphalt Pump Track, a fluid extension of the Skills Park, was thoughtfully integrated, featuring two connection points that ensure uninterrupted movement and harmony between the tracks.

Bike Parks Are Popping Up All Over the Planet

Bike Park Beginnings

You've heard of skate parks, amusement parks, national parks, water parks, and maybe even innovative playground parks.

But have you heard of bike parks?

Though bike parks are appearing in communities all over the world, they are still a new concept for some. If you're lucky, you may have one close to your home or have visited one nearby. That's in large part due to a trend in active play spaces that has grown considerably over the past 20 years: bike parks.

What Has Caused the Increase in Demand for Bike Parks?

A recent check on Google shows that the search "bike parks near me" increased by 900% over a three month period. From urban pocket parks to huge mountain resorts with lift-accessed trails, bike park building is growing at an exponential rate all over the world.

What’s behind this enormous demand for bike parks? Well, several things.

1. The COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the growth of biking, instigating what has been called “the great bicycle boom of 2020.” Cycling became a way to safely escape lockdown, with seasoned bikers getting out more often and lots of new par

Special thanks to Howard and the Dirt World team for inviting me and my family out to tour and experience Dirt World. Extra thanks to Coach Howard for getting my kid to conquer that “big hill shaped like a lowercase cursive R”.

Dirt World Bike Park Renovation: $1,170,000

The Richmond Greenway is a 3-mile long rails-to-trails project through disadvantaged communities in central Richmond. The community’s vision is to convert the City-owned property along the abandoned railway corridor from neglected urban brownfields into a necklace of clean, green, safe parks.

In 2016, a group of community members claimed a segment of the greenway east of 20th Street as their Adopt-a-Spot with the dream of creating a BMX bike park which would activate a 2-block long section of the greenway, cap the brownfield, reduce crime and encampments, and increase access to active recreation.

In 2018, the all-volunteer Friends group was able to scrape together enough money and donated dirt to shape bike terrain features, and almost immediately, this spot became a wildly popular destination for East Bay families. However, with up to 50 riders a day, the all-dirt terrain has been heavily impacted, site drainage and vandalism are ongoing challenges, and there are no park amenities for visitors.
